Honorable Mention in OPA Poetry Contest

Great news…I found out that my poem “Some Day” has won “2nd Honorable Mention” in the category: “New Poets” in the Oregon Poetry Association’s Fall 2019 contest. I am truly honored.

Someday

Someday we will be able to think of you
and not feel like falling apart.

Someday this cavernous pain will
wear down along the edges
and it won’t seem so dark.

Someday we will remember to
breathe again.

Someday we may go a whole day
without thinking of you.

Someday we will find our way
back to a normal routine.

Someday we will find joy in
small wonders again.

But today we will let the tears flow
because today our true north
has been scrambled.

Today our world and our
hearts have been shattered.

Today the simplest of tasks seem
insurmountable.

Today we are lost,
holding useless words.

Today no amount of sleep can
offer us peace.

So today we will let the tears flow
like rivers to the ocean.
We will let them flow as
a banner of how much
you are loved.

In memory of Ricky Lozano, died April 7th 2019, age 30.
